- [Recording: NIFA-BARD-IIA Innovation Showcase 2026](https://www.bard-isus.org/news/recording-nifa-bard-iia-innovation-showcase-2026/): As part of BARD’s strategy to strengthen academic engagement with the private sector, the Food and Nutrition Program was launched in 2022. The program was allocated $12 million (40 million NIS) for a five-year period to support applied research in food and nutrition. Operated jointly with the Israel Innovation Authority, the program supports Israeli researchers who partner with Israeli food and nutrition companies and collaborate with U.S. scientists funded by USDA-NIFA.

As part of the program, participants took part in a tour showcasing a range of research facilities and applied technologies across engineering and life sciences on the University of Maryland College Park campus. The tour highlighted innovative systems such as robotic mushroom packaging and vision-guided robotic blue crabmeat picking, demonstrating the integration of automation in food processing. Visits to drone and visualization laboratories provided insight into advanced imaging and data analysis tools used in agricultural and environmental monitoring.

- [Culturing the Future of Shrimp ](https://www.bard-isus.org/news/culturing-the-future-of-shrimp/):  The research group led by Prof. Amir Sagi from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, headed by Dr. Simi Weil, in collaboration with Dr. Rivka Ofir from the Arava R&D Center and their colleague Dr. Nitin Nitin from the University of California, Davis, jointly won a three-year research grant from BARD.  Within the research, they hope to build the necessary infrastructure for printing seafood on plant-based substrates.
